To accommodate the changing circumstances of education in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Kona Historical Society designed a series of virtual field trips, free of charge, to all Hawaiʻi schools. These virtual field trips are still available upon request.

We hope you will find something useful for your students in these engaging programs, whether that is a guided educational activity or simply a chance to try something new in your virtual classrooms.

If the programs and guidelines listed below will not work for your classroom, please email Public Programs Manager Audrey Blair at audrey@konahistorical.org to discuss options. Kona Historical Society’s Programs Team will do its best to reasonably accommodate your hopes and needs as much as is possible.

Virtual Field Trip Guidelines

  1. Virtual Field Trips will be a maximum of 30 minutes and can be scheduled Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. (HST).

  2. Kona Historical Society is flexible in use of technology. Let us know which platform your class is currently using and we will decide what might work best, whether that is Zoom, Google Hangouts, WebEx, or another platform.

  3. To schedule your virtual field trip, please email audrey@konahistorical.org and include the following:
    - Your school’s name
    - Your name
    - Grade levels
    - Preferred online platform
    - Two potential dates and times
    - Your first and second activity preference

  4. When possible, please schedule your virtual field trip a week in advance. However, Kona Historical Society will not be implementing a strict time limit for virtual field trip applications and will accommodate requests whenever possible.
